Weight Loss and Natural Treatment: Their Roles on the Management of Diabetes
Diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a condition when the body does not make effective use of the insulin that should be utilized in producing the body’s fuel. In the direst cases, diabetes could mean not having insulin production at all. And when insulin-production is impaired, it is most possible that the next problems to deal with are the complications. One of the conditions that could result from having diabetes is being obese.
To be able to manage diabetes, it is important for the patient to understand the nature of his illness, the methods of treatment that he could opt to use, and the role of weight management to keeping hypoglycemia and glycemic attacks at bay. Weight loss is a major key to coping with diabetes and the only way to veer from weight gain is through proper diet and exercise.
There are also alternative treatments that are now being used which appear to be new but are actually older than the modern civilization. Treatments such as herbal medicines have long been used by the ancient Chinese civilization and massage therapy has long been practiced by the Greeks. Other alternative methods include mud therapy, the administration of home made medicines, and also hydrotherapy. These treatments go hand in hand with the proven pair—diet and exercise.
Some of the home remedies for diabetics are so simple that just about anyone can concoct them. Fenugreek seeds effectively control diabetes once they are soaked overnight in a glass full of clean water. After the overnight soaking, the seeds are crushed then sieved using a fine cloth. The mixture can then be administered and it is said that the result can be seen in as little as 2 months. A half cup of karela or bitter gourd juice would also do the same trick.
Grape juice is also good in healing many illnesses and also in controlling diabetes. Mango leaves that were boiled in water produce juice that can be ingested and could help cure diabetes, too. These are the most common home-prepared herbal medications that diabetics can opt to use. Aside from the medicine that has been prescribed by the physician, it won’t harm the patient if additional herbal treatments are administered.
Since exercise is a necessary part of diabetes management, the simplest exercises that a patient could do are morning and evening walks. Yoga could also be helpful but, again, it is best to consult a physician before actually delving into this method. And if patients would want to play it safe, it is always best to just resort into the harmless methods such as mud therapy (where the patient uses mud or clay packs to release toxic matters from the body); hydrotherapy (also known as the hot tub therapy where the patient is submerged in lukewarm water which would greatly improve the body’s circulation); massage therapy (the patient is ‘kneaded’ towards well-being and this greatly relaxes and stimulates the organs of the body).
There are even extreme cases where chromotherapy is being used to treat diabetes. This method makes use of different bottles of colored water to treat different types of illnesses. Since the pancreas is the organ that is responsible for insulin-production, the bottled colored water for this organ is yellow. All the patient has to do is to drink the yellow water and he is believed to get better.
These are just some of the most basic and natural treatments for diabetes mellitus. It is always the decision of the patient whether he would trust these methods or would just rely on what his physician dictates. But what is there to lose—these methods are safe and do not even make use of chemicals so why not give it a try?
